UPDATE: Sweet, lovable Georgie aka George, got his wings today. He came into ASR in March 2025 from a sad situation. The owner had passed away, and George and his buddies, several other dogs, were found inside the house by a welfare check. After we had him neutered and brought up to date on all vaccinations, we noticed he sneezed a lot and there was odd crusting on his nose. We had the growth removed and sent off for pathology. It was a carcinoma and we were told that no matter how many times we removed the tumor, it would grow back. More surgery along with chemo and radiation treatments were recommended but it would put him thru 6 to 8 weeks of no food, daily treatments, and feeling awful….and the carcinoma would probably come back. We decided against it and allowed George a good quality of life. For the next year we loved on him, gave him lots of love, tons of petting, and all of the mulberries he could find in the backyard. It was to the point of handfeeding him because he couldn’t get all of his food into his mouth along with the constant pain of the open tumor on the end of his nose that he and I decided it was time. Good Bye Georgie, you were one of the sweetest, most mellow shelties I have known.. A pure gentleman. Run free…..

UPDATE:  Georgie has a carcinoma on his nose; he has met with an oncologist, and it was decided we didn’t want to put him through 6 to 8 weeks of daily radiation and chemo.  Georgie will remain in his foster home getting tons of love and time to bark at all things. Georgie loves to bark…..really loves to bark.

Georgie and Sally were found with their deceased owner and six other dogs.  Georgie is between 8 and 10 years old.  He is up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm tests, and heartworm preventive.  He is scheduled for a neuter and a dental and will be available for adoption after that.  Georgie is a large sheltie, probably 17 inches tall and weighs around 50 pounds.

He’s a little overweight but foster mom can feel his ribs.  He is house trained and very much a gentleman.  he gets long great with the other dogs in the foster home and is very sweet and loving. He follows foster mom from room to room and keeps a very close eye on her.   He knows some commands and is very low key.
