He is between 18 and 22 inches tall and weighs about 30 pounds. He has suffered severe neglect so he does need to gain a few pounds, most collies weigh over 50 pounds. He is not house trained but is working on it, he does walk on a leash, but will need a bit more training. He will be neutered before he can be adopted. Since Alani is just a big puppy right now he has a lot of energy and loves to run, play chase, and jump over anything stationary. He gets along well with people and other dogs.

Ellie 2 – Ellie is a beautiful tri-colored 5 yr old female sheltie who was an owner surrender. She is a small sheltie who stands 12 inches tall and weighs a little more than 10 pounds. Ellie was in bad shape when she came into rescue. She was infested with ticks and was anemic. She is still a bit underweight and her coat is sparse, dry and sunburned. All of this will be remedied with love, good nutrition and being inside. Ellie has been spayed, had a dental, and had her rear dewclaws removed. She has been brought up to date on all her vaccinations and microchipped. She tested heartworm negative and is now on heartworm preventative. She has been treated for the ticks and is now tick free. With good nutrition, she will put on a few pounds and her skin and coat will improve and look much healthier. Since Ellie lived outside, she is not housebroken and had never walked on a leash. Her foster mom is working with Ellie on both of these things as well as basic commands. Ellie has a very sweet personality and gets along very well with other dogs. She loves everyone. She is a happy little girl whose tail is always wagging! Sweet Ellie will be ready for adoption in early Oct. She would do well in a home with other dogs, or as the only dog. She is afraid of cats, so she would not do well in a home with cats.

Adopted May 2014

Harvey – Harvey came to us from down around Houston.  He had been surrendered to a small city shelter there with an injured rear right leg and  heartworm positive.  The shelter came to us for help, they asked if we could take this little fellow and do what we could to fix his leg and get him thru heartworm treatment.  When we x-rayed his leg we found that there were bullet fragments and it appeared to be an old wound as there was nothing visible on the skin.  How long had this little fellow suffered with the fragments and broken bones?  Some things should just not happen.  The first thing we had to do was amputate his rear right leg, then give him time to recuperate before we started his heartworm treatment.

Harvey is about 2 years old and weighs around 11 pounds.  He is a  sheltie pomeranium mix.  Harvey loves everyone and everything.  He is working on house training and has started heartworm treatment.  He is up to date on all of his vaccinations and will be available for adoption in the spring.  Harvey has learned to get around on 3 legs.

Adopted April 2014

Prince – (was Shaggy) and Eli were both surrendered to our rescue group because of family changes. Prince is a handsome sable and white male sheltie who is 7 years old, weighs 30 pounds, and stands 16 inches tall. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. He recently had a dental cleaning.

Prince has a sweet and friendly personality, although he is cautious when he first meets people, especially males. He is a bit ‘chatty’ and will let you know when he sees a car, bird, etc. He gets along well with other dogs. He knows several commands including: sit, down, and wait. If you put a treat on his paw and tell him to ‘wait’, he will not take the treat until you tell him he can! He also knows how to use a doggie door and enjoys spending time in the back yard running and playing.

He is housebroken and has not had a single accident in his foster home. He likes to go on walks and is slowly learning how to walk on a leash without pulling.

He gets along well with children; however, there is a young girl at his foster home and he really doesn’t interact much with her. So, we think he hasn’t been around children much. His former family told us that both Prince and Eli had done some therapy work. However, we have not verified this.

Prince is healthy and ready for his “furever” home! He needs a home where his family can continue the work on his leash training, and spend time playing with him and loving him.
