Lexi had a character that was much bigger than her petite body.
We met her after my hubby and I had moved across the country to relocate for work.
She met him first at an adopt-athon close to his work during a lunch hour. She saw him from her playpen and walked over wiggling her entire body, wagging her tail. She gave him a playful expression; cocking her head to the side. Their eyes met. Then they played while her caregivers watched in amusement.
“You love each other!” They said.
He took a photo and sent it to me. I was out of town visiting family. The moment I saw it, I knew I would love her too. From the moment I came back, we all connected and became family we were smitten with each other.![]()

At 9 she was diagnosed with a congenital heart valve defect. Thanks to cardiac intervention, her heart medication and diet, it bought us more time- another 3 1/2 years before it progressed rapidly and we had to say goodbye…
We’re grateful for all the special moments and there’s a space she left that none could ever fill in quite the way she did.
